Let’s dicover Maddy Christina on YOUTUBE !
Maddy played the game of the interview, so that you, Dear Lovers, can discover her and appreciate her work philosophy
I have discovered a young, dynamic and always smiling woman who pays great attention to the couples she accompanies for their Engagement, Wedding and “Trash the Dress” sessions. When we first met, I was surprised how we are in accord: we are two great lovers of love stories!
Who are you ? Can you give me 3 adjectives that best describe you?
- Empathic: putting yourself in the place of the married ones make possible to understand what they are living and surpass yourself for them
- Perfectionist: I constantly look to improve my team, so that we always give the best of ourselves. Not easy to live on a daily basis for the teams around me!
- Reckless: In the sense that too much thinking, we come to do things no longer or no longer take risks, so I decided to go for it and no longer put limits!
If couples hiring you should tell me something about you, what would it be?
Brides and grooms would say that I am a bit “crazy” because it remains the guidelines of the adventures I live with them! They probably have this “grain of madness” as well. I sincerely believe that we have customer who look like us, and that’s what they come for by hiring me.
Photography is your passion – why did you choose to turn it as your job, what was the trigger that made you decide to live your passion ?
Photography and video are both my passion. When I was 17, I directed short and long footages. Everything is about telling stories. I like to tell these stories in videos, but also in writing (editor’s note: Massy is also author of several novels, the fourteenth will be published very soon). Finally, 7 years ago, the photography imposed itself, and became my new way of storytelling.
Since 2011, I have taken so much pleasure doing this as day (and night) job, and I am very blessed to be able to do it the way I want, without constrains, living true human adventures with brides and grooms. What annoys me is the “line-production” work. I pay immense attention in doing qualitative work, based on communication with my clients.
What lesson, if any, did you learn by getting into this human adventure (human because you sublimate dozen of weddings every year)?
Human relationship is the base of everything. Honestly, we could do the best photos of the world, but if there is no empathy, if we do not love making our married ones crying of joy: we head straight to a wall. That said, we named this concept “Wedding Photography Experience” in order to represent this aspect of our work.
What is your strength in your job? Do you have any “academic” background?
At the beginning, I am a self-taught artist, but it is important to get trained constantly. In my opinion, we learn a lot from our peers in this business. Workshops and various exchanges with other photographers are key for improvement. Questioning ourselves is essential. The market evolve so fast, it is difficult to stay on our first knowledge.
To answer your first question, I think that, strictly speaking, my strength is my tenacity (ok, strength of weakness?). We are back to my character of “go-getter”. When I have something in mind, I go to the end and I give myself the means to achieve it. I like always go further.
How would you define your style ? What’s your little « plus », your little touch your clients come looking for ?
My style is not deadpan, and I do not want to be catalogued in a particular style, because I am afraid that is fashion effects. To choose, I would say that my style is the “WoW” style, because I love above all the beautiful picture of a couple with a beautiful landscape under a sublime light. Traveling to find the landscape that will bring the “WoW” is my current work philosophy. It changes constantly and adapts to lovers.
After years, I think that our plus is the accompaniment, the professionalism and our little madness^^: I give to the married couple a lot of advice while creating with them a very strong link. I share with them a true complicity throughout their marriage.
In summary, my clients are always reassured and serene because they are in good hands. Among other things, I also advise to have a pre-wedding engagement session, to get to know each other, to make them feel comfortable facing the lens, and to trust each other!
What were the main difficulties you encountered in starting your business?
Entrepreneurship is not always easy, but I like the freedom of creation and evolution. In any case, my projects are drawn between Luxembourg and Monaco, with a development in Dubai. Can’t wait for the future!
For you, what is the most important to keep loving what you do ?
I will have to learn to say “No”, and take care of my beloved ones and my personal life. For 7 years, I have completely devoted myself to my job and I need to limit the number of wedding I serve each year, to improve my quality of life, and be able to invest even more for my clients. It is extremely complicated for me. I do not want to choose my brides and grooms since we choose each other, like a mutual crush, but I plan to set a maximum number of weddings per year.
Could you outline the world of marriage, how you see it (throughout your lenses) ?
The world of marriage is divided into two categories. Some of the providers are here only to do business, because the market is buoyant. However, some others are real true enthusiast, and would give everything to the couples who want to hire them.
Networking is key, clearly. There are venues, Wedding Planners and other providers who recommend us, because they have seen us working and they are, in a way, guarantor of your quality. This is a great assurance for the customers.
Concerning the Wedding Planner, we make a drastic selection to work only with serious people. Our relationship must be based on honesty and trust.
What do you like the most when you first meet a new couple ?
I like to hear their story. When they first met, their daily life, their projects… Moreover, the first meeting lasts 2 hours in average, and I try to dedicate the first hour to their story, and only their story. Very often, listening to them, I am very moved. Each time, it is a short Hollywood movie that takes me in a nice story.
What about social networks ? How do you use this means of communication?
I am changing on social networks. I am leaving Facebook to get closer to Instagram. I believe that these networks, and especially Instagram, have shaken our businesses up. Today, a photographer no longer needs to have a storefront studio, but instead a virtual showcase where the whole world can discover his/her work and art. More and more customers come to us through this.
What would be your vision of my work, as a Wedding Planner specializing in destination weddings?
The marriage could have become something cheesy. However, it is back on tracks thanks, among other things, to the trend of getting married abroad. Thus, we bring an original scale. The Destination Wedding allows us to think outside the box, have a atypical wedding and 100% personalized. So you made a great choice being Destination Wedding oriented. Surround yourself with people who are going in the same direction as you, and aim for the sum to, at worst, land into the stars!
What is your mantra ?
Carpe Diem! You have to go for it because life is too short.
What do you aspire for your future ?
Continue along the same path, and continue to take care of our quality of services
Thank you Maddy for your time and sincerity. See you soon!
As for us, Dear Lovers, we are going to me very soon again for a brand new interview, or an article about Destination Weddings in Italy.
